Micro-Needling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

Micro-Needling is the latest anti-aging therapy to achieve firmer and smoother skin by stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin. The ablative procedure is safer and has less downtime than IPL or Fractional laser treatments and has shown to be more effective at fighting the signs of aging.

Fusion believes in taking a holistic approach by preparing the whole body. In order to achieve the highest results possible, you will meet with our Naturopathic Doctor and member of our esthetics team 2 weeks prior to your treatment.

Rejuvenate your skin! As our skin ages, it becomes loose, thin, and less elastic. This is due to a reduction in fiberblasts, the building blocks of collagen proteins. The result is wrinkles, sagging, and a general dull appearance – just the opposite of the fresh beauty that we desire! One solution is Micro-Needling (Collagen Induction Therapy).

What is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?

Also known as skin needling, Micro-Needling, and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), Collagen Induction Therapy is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to stimulate your own body to produce new collagen. The fresh collagen rejuvenates your skin improving texture and tightness, helping the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, scars and stretchmarks and correcting pigmentation variations and skin imperfections.

How does Micro-Needling work?

12 micro-needles through a pen make tiny punctures in the top of the skin. These small ‘skin wounds’ trigger the body’s natural response to create new collagen and elastin fibers, as well as new capillaries which fill the channels created by the needles. The result is a plumping and thickening of the skin, evening out of imperfections and improved blood supply.

What conditions can be treated or improved with Medical Micro-Needling?

Micro-Needling can help with the following conditions:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Old and new scars
  • Loose skin
  • Large pores
  • Skin texture
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin tone

What does the Micro-Needling procedure involve?

First, the skin is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied to minimize any discomfort during the procedure. Next, a small pen with a sterile, disposable tip containing micro-needles is rolled over the skin to create tiny, evenly-spaced punctures. We are able to adjust both the depth and the angle of the needles. When the treatment is complete we apply a soothing Hyaluronic Acid Serum to the skin to hydrate, heal and protect it during the healing process.

What will I look like after the treatment?

For approximately 24 hours after the treatment you will probably notice some redness and slight puffiness – similar to a sunburn. Due to the immediate swelling of the skin an instant facelift will occur as well. In as little as 7 – 14 days your skin will be noticeably smoother and radiant, but the complete benefits will not be seen until a few months later: decreased wrinkles, better complexion and firmer healthier skin.

What is the down time after a Micro-Needling treatment?

The skin recovers quickly from this minimally-invasive treatment. The redness will fade into a slight pinkish color that may last for 12 – 48 hours.

What are the benefits of Micro-Needling?

  • This safe treatment brings many benefits including:
  • Deeper absorption of the active ingredients in creams and topical serums
  • Improves blood supply and circulation
  • Increases the production of collagen through stimulation of Fiberblasts
  • Safe for all types of skin
  • Non-allergenic since nothing is injected and medical grade titanium needles are used
  • Less expensive than other resurfacing treatments
  • Safe for use on the scalp and body and also the fragile skin around the eyes, neck and mouth
  • Less painful with better results then traditional lasers: CO2 Fraxel, Photofcial & lasers.

What effects does Micro-Needling have on the skin?

The effects of Micro-Needling on the skin are significant:

  • Improve skin texture and wrinkle appearance
  • Regeneration of tissue
  • Improve scars, particularly acne scars (as the depressed areas are elevated with new tissue layers)
  • Enhance periphery skin
  • Shrink pore size
  • Improve stretch marks

Is Micro-Needling painful?

Because the needles used during the procedure are fine, similar to tattooing needles, the discomfort is minimal. We apply a numbing cream to the area before starting to reduce any pain that may be felt during micro-needling.

Can Micro-Needling be performed on any skin color?

Medical micro-needling is completely safe for most types of skin and skin colors, use with caution on Fitzpatrick IV-V.

How many treatments do I need and how often can Micro-Needling be done?

The number of treatments you choose depends on the results you want. It is completely safe to repeat collagen induction every 3-4 weeks. Keep in mind that we are stimulating your own collagen production, and that can take a few months to see full benefits from the fiberblast protein production.

For maximum results, we recommend beginning with 4-6 treatments, spaced every 3-4 weeks. If you have scars that you would like to reduce, we suggest 6-8 treatments. Maintenance based treatments every 12 weeks after completing a series helps reduce the signs of aging and continually stimulate the collagen production as we age keeping your skin youthful.

Generally, the number of treatments will depend on your unique response to the procedure, how much damage you have to begin with and how dramatic you would like the results to be. Results are usually visible after the first treatment.

What are the side effects of the Medical Micro-Needling procedure?

In over 150,000 micro-needling procedures performed around the world, no side effects have ever been reported.

Am I a candidate for the Micro-Needling?

Micro-Needling is safe for most types of skin and skin colors. It is ideal for anyone who wishes to regain a youthful appearance and rejuvenate their skin. This treatment is especially suitable for those areas which are hard to treat with other resurfacing procedures, such as the fragile skin around the eyes, neck, mouth and on the backs of the hands.

There are, however, a few people who are not suitable for micro-needling. This includes:

  • Have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last three months
  • Have open skin cuts, abrasions or wounds
  • Have undergone radiation treatment to the skin within the last year
  • Have any kind of active skin infection in the treatment area
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of poor wound healing, keloid or hypertrophic scars
  • Are under the age of 18
  • Have Epilepsy
  • Have Cardiac Abnormalities
  • Have Uncontrolled Diabetes
